Bordeaux return from Corsica with a much-needed point. Gaëtan Laborde equalised in the 78th minute, after Bifouma gave Bastia the lead early in the second half. Bastia had Florian Marange sent off late on. The Girondins fought hard to earn this draw in a tough away fixture.
The game got off to a rapid start, with both sides creating chances in the first few minutes. Jaroslav Plasil's volleyed effort was wide of the mark, and barely a minute later Cahuzac volleyed wide at the other end. This rapid tempo continued, with both sides looking to get forward. Bordeaux dominated possession in these opening minutes.
Superb save from Jérôme Prior
Cahuzac was behind Bastia's second shot on goal, but Jérôme Prior had it covered (22'). The pace dipped slightly as the first half progressed, with Bastia's counter-attacks running up against a solid Bordeaux defence. Saint Maximin had Bastia's best chance yet, but Jérôme Prior pulled off an excellent save to keep the scores level (33’) !
Diego Contento clears off the line
The Corsicans were gaining in confidence as the match progressed, creating more chances. The Girondins remained focused and solid at the back, although Diego Contento was forced to clear Saint Maximin's header off the line just before the break (45’).
Gourvennec made a change at half time, with Adam Ounas coming on for Igor Lewczuk and Greg Sertic dropping back into defence. A shot from Djikou failed to trouble Jérôme Prior (48’), but the hosts soon made good on their first-half promise. Saint-Maximin accelerated past his man and laid off for Danic, whose cross found Bifouma at the back post. Goal for Bastia (1-0, 49’). Cahuzac almost made it two with a lobbed effort two minutes later (51’).
With an hour on the clock, Gaëtan Laborde came on for Franois Kamano. Bastia were dominating here, and it was all the Girondins could do to hold on. Adam Ounas had a shot saved off the line as Bordeaux began to fight their way back into the game (68’). Jocelyn Gourvennec decided to freshen up the attack by bringing on Saydou Youssouf for Jérémy Ménez. An excellent tactical decision! Gaëtan Laborde promptly equalised for the Girondins with a sweet little chip (1-1, 78’).
Bastia were reduced to ten men when Florian Marange got himself sent off (82’), part of a late flurry of cards issued by referee Sébastien Desiage. Jérémy Ménez had a shot saved late on, and the game ended in a draw. A hard-won point for the Girondins!
