The Girondins return from Guingamp with one more point. After taking the lead courtesy of Igor Lewczuk (22'), Bordeaux held on until the very end. Almost. Briand equalised in the 93rd minute. Guingamp keeper Johansson stopped a late penalty from Jérémie Ménez (78').
The first incident of note in this match: a yellow card, shown to François Kamano in the 6th minute for an over-zealous challenge. On a brighter note, Valentin Vada had the first shot on goal a few minutes later - even if it did miss the target (9’). The game soon settled into a decent rhythm, with the Girondins pushing forward and looking for weaknesses in the well-organised Breton defence.
Lewczuk ouvre le score
Things stepped up a gear in the 17th minute, when Salibur and then Deaux both tore through the Bordeaux defence. The Girondins fought back right away, and took the lead with the first shot on target of the afternoon. Valentin Vada floated his free kick onto the waiting head of Igor Lewczuk, who headed Bordeaux into the lead (22’, 0-1).
Bordeaux stay focused
The goal seemed to take the wind out of Guingamp's sails, and shots on goal were few and far between. The Girondins were well-organised and determined to make the most of their lead!
Things continued in much the same way in the second half, with Guingamp pressing forward but struggling to break through the Bordeaux defence. The Girondins were solid at the back, and created a few decent chances from set pieces. Jocelyn Gourvennec decided to make his first substitution of the game, bringing Gaëtan Laborde on for Diego Rolan (62’).
Saved by Prior - and the crossbar
Youssouf Sabaly was having a fantastic game on the right wing, and he soon delivered a great ball which Gaëtan Laborde unfortunately failed to put past Johnsson (67’). Guingamp sub Privat had a headed effort at the other end saved by Jérôme Prior (69’), and minutes later Briand rattled the woodwork with a powerful drive (74’).
Things stepped up another gear as the end began to draw near. First Jérôme Prior pulled off another save to deny Sorbaon (76’). Next, Youssouf Sabaly went down in the penalty area and referee Tony Chapron pointed immediately to the penalty spot. Jérémie Ménez stepped up... and sent the ball straight to Johnsson. This game was far from over. Jérôme Prior produced yet another good save to stop a dangerous shot from Briand (80’), as the hosts kept pushing forward. Malcom came on for François Kamano, with ten minutes left to protect that slender lead (80’).
Briand equalises in injury time
Jérôme Prior was imperious in the last ten minutes, denying Privat on several occasions. And yet… Briand snatched a goal in the dying seconds of added time (90+3, 1-1). A crushing disappointment for Bordeaux.
