For their 14th outing of the Ligue 1 season the Girondins de Bordeaux hosted Dijon FCO, hoping to rack up another home win. Bordeaux ended up 3-2 winners, snatching triumph from the jaws of defeat thanks to a last-minute brace from François Kamano!
Girondins dominate early on
After last weekend's trip to Guingamp, the Girondins de Bordeaux were back at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE for their 14th game of the Ligue 1 season. Their last home game was a win over Lorient (2-1), today's task was to get the better of Dijon. For the first fifteen minutes, Jocelyn Gourvennec's dominated possession as they looked for an opening in the visitors' five-man defence. Dijon were clearly set up to defend, but they still managed to test Jérôme Prior when Pierre Lees-Melou broke free and got a shot away. Prior had it covered (13th minute).
A nasty surprise before half time
The first half continued in much the same way, with the Girondins dominating possession but lacking accuracy. In their constant efforts to break open the Dijon defence, Bordeaux's forwards often found themselves offside (e.g. Adam Ounas, 33'). Worse still, sloppy defending at the other end allowed Dijon to take the lead, completely against the run of play. Mehdi Abeid fired his free kick past Jérôme Prior and into the back of the net (44').
Despite dominating the first period, Jocelyn Gourvennec's side now had a fight on their hands
Diego Rolan puts things right... for a few minutes
The Girondins came back from the break firing on all cylinders, and it wasn't long before Diego Rolan levelled the scores. Latching onto an excellent ball from half-time sub François Kamano, the Uruguayan slammed home the Girondin's 3500th goal in the history of Ligue 1.
But despite another spell of Bordeaux dominance, Dijon snatched the lead back in the 62nd minute. Julio Tavares provided the pass, allowing Loïs Diony to get the better of Jérôme Prior.
Frustrated attacks, then a moment of genius!
The Girondins threw everything they had at the Dijon defence, but the visitors were determined to see the game out. In the 87th minute, a foul on François Kamano gave Bordeaux a free kick in a promising position. It went out for a corner, which Jaroslav Plasil floated onto the head of the very same François Kamano: goal, 2-2 !
With the game now in injury time, Jérémy Ménez danced his way around two defenders to deliver another cross for Kamano. Another goal for the Guinean, and three points for Bordeaux! What an ending!
Jocelyn Gourvennec's side dug deep to fight back and earn these three points. A great result!
The Girondins will be back in action this Wednesday in Bastia at 19:00, then next Saturday (3rd December) for another home game against Lille.
