After a hectic, goal-filled match, the Girondins finally bowed out of the Coupe de France in injury time. Bammou scored in the 6th minute, with Crivelli equalising in the 22nd. Poko gave Bordeaux the lead after the break (51’), but Sighthorsson pulled it back to 2-2. Malcom put the Girondins ahead in extra time (98’), but two goals in the space of four minutes from Audel and Bedoya put an end to Bordeaux's cup run.
Girondins thrashed by Lille in League Cup semi-final
Bordeaux won't be going to the Stade de France just yet - their flying start to 2016 has come crashing down. The Girondins suffered their first defeat in 11 matches tonight, beaten by Lille in the League Cup semi-final. Benzia (7'), Sané (41' o.g.), Soumaoro (44'), Bauthéac (56') and Boufal (90') got the goals for Lille, with Clément Chantôme's 33rd-minute equaliser a footnote. The Girondins need to pick themselves up, dust themselves down as look ahead to the game against Rennes this Sunday.
The Girondins will take on FC Nantes in the next round of the cup
The Coupe de France draw took place yesterday (Thursday) in the AS St-Etienne club musuem, just before the Verts took on AC Ajaccio. The draw, made by Dominique Bathenay, pitches FC Nantes against the Girondins.
The Girondins are through to the 5th round of the Coupe de France! Jussiê (45’+1) and Enzo Crivelli (58’) got the goals in a well deserved win over Angers, who pulled one back courtesy of Ketkeophomphone (69’). A very satisfying performance from this young Girondins side.
Bordeaux hosted Lorient this evening for their Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final. Willy Sagnol's side were looking to continue their recent run of good form, with one eye on the Stade de France. No easy task against the Merlus, who have been solid away from home recently. Despite injury problems for both clubs, the managers fielded their strongest possible teams.
