After a sometimes tense encounter, the Girondins de Bordeaux emerged 1-0 victors from the first Atlantic Derby of the season. Diego Rolan's first-half goal made the difference, and Nantes' late pressure was not enough to break the Bordeaux defence.
The Girondins sealed their second victory of the week over south-west rivals Toulouse this evening. Marc Planus (52’) and Diego Rolan (63’) put Bordeaux in front, with Pesic pulling one back for the visitors (68’). The boys in blue remain masters of the Garonne !
The Girondins did what they needed to do to be eath Evian TG in this weekend's Friday evening game (2-1). The performance was far from perfect, and the visitors fought bravely, but Bordeaux showed their pragmatic side to carry the day. Diego Rolan (19’) and Wahbi Khazri (56’) scored two magnificent goals to send the Girondins back to the top of the table!
The Girondins will start and finish the 2014/2015 season against Montpellier. The first match will be played down south on Saturday 9th August, with the final game of the campaign being played in the brand new Stade de Bordeaux on Saturday 23rd May 2015. Bordeaux's first home game of the season will come on 16th August, against Monaco.
The final game of the season at Stade Chaban Delmas certainly lived up to expectations. Francis Gillot's side played with energy and intensity, refusing to let their heads go down after Cheyrou opened the score (30’). In the 66th minute, a pinpoint header from Cheick Diabaté kept Bordeaux's home record against OM intact!
The Girondins will be sorely disappointed with this result, after comprehensively dominating the first half yet still failing to score. After the break André Poko won a penalty, which Jussiê converted (63’). Nice bounced back minutes later with a goal from Bosetti (67’). The Girondins kept pushing until the very end, with Henrique seeing his header cleared off the line in the 90th minute.
