As you've undoubtedly heard by now, Zinedine Zidane has been appointed manager of Real Madrid. The Girondins de Bordeaux, where Zidane played between 1992 and 1996, wish him every success in his new job.

All eyes were on Madrid yesterday when a press conference was called for 8pm. When club president Florentino Perez took the stage he was joined by a familiar face: Zinedine Zidane.

The president announced that Rafa Benitez's contract had been terminated, and that the Spaniard would be replaced by Zinedine Zidane. Bordeaux's midfield playmaker in the years 1992-1996, ZZ thus makes the move up from coaching the reserves to managing the first side.

This is a massive moment for the midfield legend, an established fixture in the Girondins' all-time Top XI. He was last back in Bordeaux to symbolically kick the first ball in the Nouveau Stade on 23rd May 2015. We wish him every success in the world with Real Madrid.
